Renee Cowan’s has been drafted as the Brisbane Lions' third pick (23 overall) in the 2017 AFLW Draft, a fitting reward for twelve months of hard work and determination.

Cowan is a medium-sized, strong competitor who enjoys shutting down opposition’s forwards in the aerial contest.

In 2016, Cowan was unlucky to miss selection in the Lions inaugural AFLW squad, after damaging her ankle just before draft day and becoming unable to trial.

The 28-year-old was back better than ever in 2017 and proved age was no barrier at October’s AFLW Combine. Cowan finished third in the 20-metre sprint, fifth in the agility test and third in the vertical jump test, ahead of the 40+ participants.

Part of the Lions' training squad in 2017, Cowan now joins her Yeronga Devils’ QWAFL premiership winning teammates Sabrina Frederick-Traub, Emily Bates and Kate McCarthy in Brisbane ahead of the 2018 AFLW season.
