His battle with Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy on Sunday was a highlight of what was an enthralling game.
"It was a pretty frenetic game [against Collingwood]. You don't always realise the quality of the game when you're amongst it," Martin said.
"[The close losses] are making us hungrier. It feels like we are very close.
"We had our review on Monday. We're working on our pressure constantly, forcing errors from our opponents. It's pretty exciting to try and fix them this week and be better.
"Fagan is always committed to continual growth and improvement. After a good performance like on the weekend, he reminds us that we are on track."

"I would like to think I've got a few years left in me, and hopefully that can coincide with some success," he said.
"Life's pretty damn good as a football player in a losing team. I can't imagine what it would be like
