Injury News

Brisbane Lions defender Darcy Gardiner will have surgery on his shoulder this afternoon, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2018 AFL season.

Gardiner dislocated his right shoulder late in the first quarter of Round 21 against Collingwood.

General Manager of Football David Noble said it was disappointing for Gardiner to end a promising season on a sour note.

“Darcy’s had a wonderfully consistent year for us and has formed an integral part in the growth of our backline,” Noble said.

“We look forward to his return in the 2019 pre-season.”

Lions Medical staff estimate a recovery time of five months.

Marco Paparone will now miss the remainder of the NEAFL season after initially expecting to overcome a hamstring injury in time for NEAFL finals.
