The Brisbane Lions have selected Coorparoo Kings’ Jesse Tawhiao-Wardlaw with Pick No. 61 at the 2018 AFL Women’s Draft.

At 185cm tall, Tawhiao-Wardlaw boasts a significant presence both in the forward line and ruck.

A former netball talent, Tawhiao-Wardlaw creates strong leads and takes strong marks above her head.

In 2018, the tall forward was an integral player for Queensland in the Under 18 National Championships and represented the Lions AFLW side during the Winter Series competition.

Coaches Comment – Craig Starcevich

“Jesse played some games for us in the Winter Series and looked completely at home.

“She’s quite new to football, came from a netball background.

“She really plays key forward like a goal shooter or goal attack in netball. She knows when to come up with the ball carrier, when to sit back. She changes her leading patterns up, she’s a strong overhead mark.

“She’s a genuine tall that wants to come at the ball carrier, that’s what we really like about her style of play."

Welcome to the Den, Jesse!
