Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann has welcomed the Club’s 2019 AFL fixture, which was announced earlier today.

Highlights for the Lions include the return of the traditional Easter Thursday fixture to The Gabba, more free-to-air matches on the Seven Network and eight Saturday home games.

In 2019 the Lions will play six matches in Victoria, with two at the MCG. They will also travel to Ballarat to face the Western Bulldogs and will meet the Hawks in Launceston for a third year in a row.

Swann said the fixture in fan-friendly for Lions’ supporters.

“We had asked the AFL for more Saturday home games in 2019 as we believe they are easier for our fans to attend,” Swann said.

“We will have some blockbusters on Saturday nights next year, so we look forward to putting on a show for our supporters again.

"We are also excited that three of our games will be broadcast free-to-air on the Seven Network, with two in prime-time. This will allow more people being able to watch our exciting brand of footy.

“Six games in Victoria, with five in Melbourne and two at the MCG is also a great result. We hope our supporters will be inclined to jump on the train to Ballarat when we play the Bulldogs at Mars Stadium in Round 8.

“Playing the Gold Coast in Round 6 at Metricon Stadium in an early Saturday afternoon timeslot will also make it easy for our fans to jump on the M1 and go down to support the team, while being home in time for dinner.

“Now that the draw has been revealed we will be counting down the days until Round 1.”

The Lions 1-4 year players will commence pre-season this Monday 5 November, with the Club’s 2019 Membership campaign to also be launched that day.
