The Brisbane Lions NEAFL side are set to play three curtain raisers at the Gabba in 2019.

NEAFL Operations Manager Luke Curran said the experience playing on the big stage of the Gabba is essential for the players’ development.

“It’s really important for our NEAFL side to experience playing at the Gabba,” Curran told lions.com.au.

“The senior team’s fans and members arrive early for the game and create atmosphere for the players.

“It’s also an opportunity for our supporters to create a connection with our emerging players on the Lions list.”

The first curtain raiser will be on June 30 (NEAFL Round 13, AFL Round 15) with the NEAFL side taking on Redland before the Seniors battle Melbourne.

On July 20 (NEAFL Round 16, AFL Round 18) the NEAFL team will play Gold Coast before Lions v North Melbourne.

Finally, on August 10 (NEAFL Round 19, AFL Round 21), the NEAFL and the Senior side will both take on Gold Coast.

Additionally, in exciting news for Lions fans in Brisbane, there will be two big games of football to watch over Easter.

The Lions' NEAFL side will take on Aspley in a Good Friday clash on April 19.

This clash at Voxson Oval (Graham Road) is the day after the Lions' Thursday night blockbuster against Collingwood at the Gabba.

The Lions finished the 2018 NEAFL season in fifth place on the ladder and were eliminated in the first week of finals by Aspley.

“We have a great local rivalry with Aspley, so we are looking forward to this clash,” Curran said.

“Having the game on Good Friday, off the back of the AFL Easter Thursday clash against Collingwood, is convenient for our supporters.”
