Lachie Neale, Jarryd Lyons and Lincoln McCarthy will play their first game for the Brisbane Lions this weekend after being named in Senior Coach Chris Fagan’s final 22-man side today.

All three came to the Club during the 2018 off-season and will make their debut against the reigning premiers, the West Coast Eagles, at The Gabba.

The trio have earned their call-up to the team, with Fagan speaking highly of their commitment to the new team and impressive performances in the two JLT Community Series matches.

Darcy Gardiner’s race against the clock has paid off, with the daring defender recovering from a PCL injury in time to run out this weekend.

Gardiner’s presence will strengthen the Lions backline playing alongside Harris Andrews, Josh Walker, Daniel Rich, Luke Hodge and Alex Witherden.

Stefan Martin has been named in the ruck position, with Jarrod Berry and Lyons as followers. Neale, Captain Dayne Zorko and Hugh McCluggage will play in the centreline.

Fagan has opted for a tall forward line in Round 1, with Dan McStay, Oscar McInerney and Eric Hipwood all named. Cam Rayner, McCarthy and Charlie Cameron will also be found in front of goals.

Ryan Bastinac, Mitch Robinson, Zac Bailey and Rhys Mathieson have been named on the interchange bench.

Allen Christensen, Lewis Taylor, Ryan Lester and Archie Smith will be emergencies for the team.

Fagan told Lions.com.au he is itching for the season to start against the Eagles this weekend.

“Last year’s premiers, a fantastic test for us,” he said.

“I’m looking forward most of all to hopefully all of our fans getting here and filling up The Gabba.

“I don’t know whether they realise it but when The Gabba gets noisy, our players get a huge lift.

“We want to make this ground here a real fortress for us.”
