Lions Academy member Keidean Coleman has been awarded the Round 3 NEAFL Rising Star nomination after a strong start to the 2019 season.

The 19-year-old booted three goals in Brisbane’s 48-point victory over Aspley on Good Friday, where he was the only academy member to take the field amongst a strong line-up featuring 21 AFL-listed players.

Hailing from Katherine in the Northern Territory, Coleman moved to Brisbane several years ago and joined Wynnum JAFC before progressing to Morningside in 2013.

Last season was a breakout year for Coleman, who featured for the Lions in the NAB AFL Academy Series as well as his inclusion in the Allies squad throughout the NAB AFL Under-18 National Championships.

He also made his NEAFL debut, playing eight games including the Lions’ only finals appearance against Aspley, and attended the AFL Draft Combine in October.

So far this season, Coleman – who is a member of the Lions Under-19 Academy squad – has averaged 17.7 disposals at 80 per cent efficiency, seven marks, four inside 50s, three tackles and 6.7 score involvements in his role up forward.

The NEAFL Rising Star is awarded to the most promising young talent in the NEAFL competition.

Nominees must be under the age of 21 and played less than 20 senior games (excluding games as AFL club academy players) at the start of the 2019 season.
