Hall of Fame is less than a month away and to celebrate the Brisbane Lions are turning back the clock by honoring some of our greats with “Wednesday Wallpaper.” Follow the link below or download through our App for your new wallpaper.

Today you can download an image of Bears legend Roger Merrett; triple Lions premiership Captain Michael Voss or Brownlow medalist Kevin Murray to have as your phone background. All three have been inducted in the Lions Hall of Fame.

Merrett played 164 games for the Brisbane Bears between 1988-1996 and was Captain for seven of those years. He was the Club’s leading goal kicker for three seasons (1993-195) and went on to be the Bears’ All Time Leading Goal Kicker. He was as tough as they come and was a brilliant leader of men on field. He captain players as young cubs before they went on to become Lions great, including Michael Voss, Justin Leppitsch, Nigel Lappin, Brad Scott, Jason Akermanis, Shaun Hart and Darryl White.

Merrett also had the honour of leading the Bears to finals for the first time in 1995.

Along with Murray, his commitment to the Bears is recognised in the naming of the Club Champion award, the Merrett-Murray medal.

Murray played the most games for Fitzroy, with 333 VFL games to his name. He was a champion on field during a difficult time in the Club’s history and was known for his “never say die” attitude.

“Bulldog” won eight Fitzory Best & Fairest awards during his two stints at the Club and also served as Captain for eight seasons. He was an outstanding defender and later in his career played as a ruck-rover.

In 1969 he was awarded the most prestigious individual honour, the Brownlow Medal. He has since been named in the AFL’s Team of the Century and is an AFL Hall of Fame Legend.

Voss was renowned as one of the toughest players to ever pull on a Lions guernsey. He was an inspiring Captain during the Lions’ triple premierships between 2001-2003.

He started his career at the Bears in 1992 and went on to play 289 games overall for both clubs. In 1996 he was awarded the Brownlow medallist as the league’s best player and was named All Australian five times in his career.

On Saturday 8 June, a triple-premiership star and one of Voss’ teammates will join him in being inducted in the Hall of Fame. You can join the celebration in Melbourne by booking tickets at lions.com.au/h-o-f.
