Zorko’s mid-season assessment

Zorko: Our goals haven't changed Dayne Zorko talks about the second half of the year and how the team is still looking for continual improvement.

Captain Dayne Zorko said the leadership group will be holding their players accountable this week in making sure they train hard and intensely ahead of their Round 14 clash against the Saints.

“This week our training has to be better than it ever has been,” Zorko said.

“There’s obviously a little bit of danger that you’ve still got your holiday blues and that sort of stuff but as a leadership group it’s our job to switch the boys back on as soon as possible.

“You play the way you train.”

With the AFL competition now well and truly in the back end of the season, finals is on everyone’s lips. The Lions are in the Top 8 with seven wins and five losses.

“It’s a position we haven’t been in a long time,” Zorko said.

“Our goals haven’t changed or haven’t moved from where they were at the start of the year.

“Every year we’re trying to improve and grow as a football team. That’s certainly still the number one focus.

“Everyone has aspirations to play finals, we’re no different to that but we can’t focus on winning or losing, we need to focus on our process on getting better each week.”

This Saturday afternoon the Lions will meet St Kilda for the first time since Round 1, 2018.
