The Lions have continued their undefeated start to the 2019 season with a 97-point victory over Redland on Sunday at the Gabba. 

The game was well and truly in the balance at half-time with Brisbane leading by just two goals after Redland found form in the second term, kicking seven goals to pull back the three-goal lead set by the Lions in the first quarter.

However, Brisbane put the result beyond doubt with a seven goal to zero third quarter paving the way for the 25.19 (169) to 10.12 (72) result. 

For Redland, the impetus will be on goal kicking when they hit the training track this week. The Bombers dominated in the first quarter with their outside run shocking the Lions. However, they were poor in front of goal kicking 0.8 in the first quarter.

For Brisbane it was Ryan Bastinac who led the way with a mammoth 36 disposals, which included nine marks. Nick Robertson also impressed with 21 disposals and five goals in the match. 

Irishmen James Madden was impressive kicking a career-high five goals after booting his first ever goal in Lions colours only last week against Sydney University. His switch from half back to the forward line signalling how versatile he is to the side.

Off-season recruit Marcus Adams played a full match in his second NEAFL game for the season and was happy with his progress so far. 

“Last week I was on restricted game time, this time around I played a full game and I’m feeling pretty good,” Adams told neafl.com.au

“I’m pretty tired now but better for the run,” he joked.

Adams was named among Brisbane’s bets alongside Bastinac, Robertson, and Ely Smith (25 disposals, six clearances), Madden and defender Matt Eagles.

For the Bombers, who came up against 20 AFL-listed players, they were best served by midfielder Damian Steven with 20 disposals, ruckman Craig Malone, Clay Cameron (19 disposals, two goals) and Stephen Mills

Thoughts now turn to next week where the Lions take on the red hot GIANTS, who haven’t lost in their last four matches at GIANTS Stadium.

Redland will look to recoup when they take on Gold Coast next Saturday at Metricon Stadium, who have also been on fire the past fortnight.
