The Roar Deal: Josh Walker

Josh Walker joined Mike and Dom on The Roar Deal this week to talk about his 2019 season and the group’s thrilling win in Launceston over the weekend.

Walker, having played in the side’s undefeated NEAFL team in recent weeks, replaced suspended Vice-Captain Harris Andrews against the Hawks on the weekend. This season he has played either end of the ground for the Lions and has found the transition to be surprisingly smooth.

“We’ve played enough footy together to know how it’s working,” Walker said.

“There’s enough stability there that you don’t really notice it.”

Walker was candid with the pair about his frustration at not having cemented a spot in the senior side this year.

“That’s just the way it is,” he said.

“I suppose I’ll just bide my time and do the best I can and hopefully it falls in my favour.”

A focus for Walker this year has been improving his ability to defend both tall and small forwards. Each time he plays in the NEAFL this is front of mind.

“I’ll just keep doing the best I can every week,” he said.

The Lions have enjoyed a lot more on field success this year, with their win over Hawthorn their 13th this season and guaranteeing them a finals berth for the first time in a decade. But Walker said the energy and positivity has not been different compared to other years.

“Around the Club, not a lot’s changed. We’ve always been a bubbly group,” he said.
