The Brisbane Lions have traded for skillful defender Callum Ah Chee from the Gold Coast SUNS in return for the Club’s future second and fourth round selections at the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.

Ah Chee, who was selected at pick No. 8 at the 2015 NAB AFL Draft, comes to the Lions Den after four seasons with the SUNS. He started his career as a forward, booting 21 goals over his first two seasons, before being recently shifted into defence.

The 21-year-old only played one senior game in 2019 after missing most of the year due to quad and ankle injuries. His prior seasons for the SUNS were more consistent, with Ah Cheeplaying 44 games over three years.

Ah Chee said he is looking forward to a fresh start with the Lions.

“I’ve met Chris Fagan and after talking with him I’m excited by the Club’s vision,” he said.

“I can’t wait to come to Brisbane and get started.”

General Manager of Football David Noble said that Ah Chee fills a need the Club were seeking at trade period.

"Cal is fast and smart with his ball use, some skills we were after at Trade Period,” Noble said.

“He is competitive around the ball and can take a strong mark.

We are really excited to secure a young talent like Cal, who is bolstered by plenty of AFL experience.

“We are happy he would want to come to our Club.”
