Belle Dawes: Pick No. 15, 162cm, 11/8/01

  • Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy player
  • 2018 All Australian
  • NAB AFL Women’s Academy graduate

The Lions have selected Hyundai Help for Kids Academy player Belle Dawes with Pick No. 15 at today’s AFLW Draft in Melbourne.

Dawes is a dynamic inside midfielder, who played one game for the Lions undefeated QW Winter Series team in 2019.

The 18-year-old played for Queensland at the 2019 NAB Under 18 AFL Women’s National Championships in June and is a NAB AFL Women’s Academy graduate.

In the QAFLW Dawes plays for Maroochydore, who finished fourth this year.

At October’s combine she tested well, finishing second overall in the agility test.

In 2018 she was named an All Australian.

Coach Craig Starcevich said Dawes’ energy would be a strong addition to the group.

“Belle wins a lot of contested ball around stoppages,” he said.

“She’s energetic, competitive and always a positive influence in a group.”
