Prime time football has well and truly returned to The Gabba with the Lions set to host two Thursday night and two Friday night blockbusters in 2020.

Collingwood will travel to The Gabba for Round 4’s Easter Thursday clash, followed by Richmond on Friday May 8 (Round 8), the Demons on Friday June 19th (Round 14) and the following week Hawthorn on Thursday June 25th (Round 15).

The Lions have been rewarded with an exciting fixture, off the back of a remarkable 2019 campaign where they played their first AFL Finals Series in a decade.

In 2020 the Lions will have ten games broadcast on Channel 7, the highest since 2010 when they had seven. The team will have eleven games on Fox Sports, and look forward to working with them closely after a long, successful partnership.

The Club will also make history when the AFL and AFLW teams take part in a double-header against North Melbourne on Saturday 28 March at The Gabba.

In 2020 the Lions will travel to Victoria five times, with four games in Melbourne and one game in Geelong.

Lions CEO Greg Swann praised the Lions 2020 fixture.

“We’re delighted to have some marquee Thursday and Friday night games at The Gabba,” he said.

“The last time we hosted a Friday night regular season game was 2013 against Collingwood. Our Captain Dayne Zorko and Ryan Lester are the only two remaining players from that game.

“We saw crowds flock to The Gabba with the return of Easter Thursday in 2019 and we know next year our members and supporters will get behind us at these games and pack the stands.

“We’re also really pleased with the 10 free-to-air games on Channel 7 we’ve been given as well as the eleven games with our long term partner, Fox.

“We can’t wait to kick off our season against the Hawks on the biggest stage, the MCG, in Round 1. What a reward for our passionate Victorian members and supporters.”

In further good news, the Lions 2020 memberships are expected to be available for sale next week.
