Lions players Sophie Conway and Jesse Wardlaw have been named in the inaugural AFLPA’s AFLW players 22Under22.

In her first year back after an ACL injury, Conway was strong for the Lions in the wing position. Her tackling pressure and forward line pressure went up a notch in 2020. Conway played all matches including the AFLW Semi Final with her best performance being Round 2’s win over Geelong where she had 15 disposals, eight tackles and one goal.

Her teammate Wardlaw also shone in the Club’s win over the Cats and was rewarded with a AFLW Rising Star nomination. The 20-year-old solidified her role as a strong mark option for her Lions teammates in the forward 50, boasting some of the safest hands in the team. Wardlaw kicked nine goals during the season, with her highest being three against Geelong.
