Staff Luke Curran

Luke Curran

Luke Curran, the Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy Manager, has been there since day one of program. Curran has more than 18 years of experience in the AFL industry. He started his career as an AFL Development Officer on the Sunshine Coast, before diving head on into the Lions Academy job.

During his time, he has worked with thousands of boys and girls from the age of 12, right through to their draft age of 18. He has seen their football nous develop and watched them build resilience and professionalism.

Curran has worked with all of the Academy alumni on the Lions AFL and AFLW lists including Harris Andrews, Sophie Conway, Eric Hipwood, Connor McFadyen, Connor Ballenden, Gabby Collingwood, Nat Grider, Ben Keays, Archie Smith, Tom Fullarton, Jack Payne, Jacob Allison, Jesse Wardlaw and Jade Ellenger. He was instrumental in all of them being drafted to the Club.

Josh Hunt

Josh Hunt

Josh Hunt is a dual premiership winner with Geelong with 212 AFL games to his name for two Clubs.

Hunt was drafted to Geelong with Pick No. 44 at the 2000 draft. Playing in the forward line, he was revered for his powerful, accurate and long ranging left boot.

He played thirteen seasons with the Cats, including their 2007 and 2011 AFL Grand Finals, when they took home the silverware. Later he went on to play one season with the GWS GIANTS.

Hunt has been the Hyundai Help for Kids Academy Head Coach since 2016.

Craig Starcevich

Craig Starcevich

Craig Starcevich has coached the Lions AFLW side for the past three years, steering them to two AFLW Grand Finals. He is also a premiership playing, having won the 1990 flag with Collingwood. He played 144 AFL games for the Magpies and Brisbane Bears and kicked 178 goals.

He was the Lions’ Physical Performance Manager during their premiership three-peat and has also been a strength and conditioning coach for the Brisbane Roar.

He spent six years working with AFL Queensland in a variety of roles including North Qld Game Development Manager, NEAFL Operations Manager and Female Football Coach.

In 2018 he came to the Lions’ Club on a full-time basis, balancing his role as Lions AFLW Coach and Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy Director of Coaching.
