Tuesday’s nights clash against Carlton will all be about the Pride for Foundation Lion, Jess Wuetschner, when she pulls on the Club’s rainbow themed guernsey.

Having missed out on Pride Round in 2021, Wuetschner said that she hopes she can do the community proud when she runs out at Metricon Stadium.

“It’s really exciting for me because I missed Pride Round last year,” Wuetschner said.

“I’m super excited to get out there and be a part of it this year.”

“It’s our second year wearing this Pride guernsey and it’s really special because it’s the first one we ever had at the Club.

“I think that as a collective we wanted to wear it again, having only gotten to wear it once last year. So far this season we’ve already worn it in our first game with Adelaide as it’s our clash guernsey this year.

“I’m just excited to put it on again and do the team proud, the Club proud and the LGBTQ community proud.”

A member of the LGBTQ+ community herself, Wuetschner can’t understate the importance Pride Round has for the community.

“Pride is a huge part of women’s sport, but especially AFLW.

“I know for me when I first started playing football at 17, I was welcomed into that community with open arms.

“It’s a really important part of our game and it’s just really exciting to get out there and celebrate it.”

Tuesday night will also see the Lions pull on a special Pride-themed warm-up t-shirt, adding to the celebrations of the evening.

“[The warm-up t-shirt] is actually pretty cool!

“I only saw it the other day and it’s going to bring that bit of extra colour to the game and be an important part of what we’re doing this Round.”
