Premiership Captain and Brisbane Lions Assistant Coach Emma Zielke will have the honour of unfurling the Club’s maiden Premiership flag at Saturday’s Round 4 clash at Maroochydore.

It will be the Club’s first home game at their new home ground in Maroochydore since winning their maiden flag.

With the Lions bouncing back from a challenging start to the 2022 AFLW campaign, there will be plenty of cause for celebration come Saturday.

For Zielke, it’s a chance to finally share the Premiership flag and Cup with their biggest supporters.

“It’s a massive honour to get to unfurl the flag at our first home game,” Zielke said.

“For the girls, it’s the reward of being able to share something that we worked so hard for last year with all of the members and fans that supported us along the way.”

“I’m hoping that we can get a big Brisbane crowd up to Maroochydore to not just support the girls against Geelong, but celebrate what we achieved in 2021 too.”

Zielke retired from AFLW at the end of last season following the Lions Premiership win..

She’s remained close to the Club, with the former skipper taking on the role of AFLW Assistant Coach in 2022.

Brisbane Lions Head of Women’s Football Breeanna Brock said that it felt fitting for the Club’s inaugural AFLW Captain to have the honour of raising the flag on Saturday.

“Emma’s been such an integral part of the Club’s AFLW journey since the very beginning,” Brock said.

“There really isn’t anyone more fitting to raise up the flag in front of our members and fans than Emma.”

“I say it all the time, but we really do have the best fans in the business and to be able to come together with them this Saturday to celebrate the 2021 Premiership will be such a rewarding and invaluable moment for the team and the Club.”

The unfurling of the flag and Premiership Cup celebrations will take place prior to the first bounce on Saturday.
