With less than two weeks until Season 7 of the AFLW kicks off, we’ve highlighted five matches that you can’t afford to miss this AFLW season.

1. Round 1 at the Gabba

We’re kicking Season 7 off with a bang and heading to the home of football in Queensland to take on Fremantle in a tough Round 1 clash.

These two sides haven’t met since Round 5, 2021 where the Lions ended Fremantle’s 11-game winning streak to hold on for a thrilling 11-point win.

The two sides have shared plenty of tight contests in the past and with Fremantle going to strength-to-strength last season, there’s no doubt Round 1 will launch Season 7 with a bang.

2. QClash

A fan favourite in the Queensland football calendar since the Gold Coast Suns joined the competition in 2020, QClash Season 7 is set to take place in Round 3 on Saturday September 17.

Last year’s Queensland derby saw the Lions romp home to their second QClash win, with Courtney Hodder’s courageous on field antics earning her the QClash medal.

Further ceremony will be added to the hotly contested QClash affair, with the match-up falling in Indigenous Round.

3. Preliminary Final Re-Match

One of the Lions’ most anticipated matches of the season will come in Round 4 when they have their chance to avenge last season’s Preliminary Final loss to Melbourne.

Heading down south to Casey Fields, the Lions will be on the hunt for their first win against the Dees since Round 1, 2017.

With the fire of Preliminary Final heartbreak in their bellies, the Lions will need a parochial crowd to get behind them and ensure they get the job done in Victoria.

4. Grand Final Day at Punt Rd

Yep, you heard it here first! The Brisbane Lions will be at Punt Rd on Grand Final Day.

Although not on the main stage of the MCG, the Lions will have their chance to join in the celebrations for the AFL’s biggest day when they face Richmond at the Swinburne Centre in the only AFLW match on Grand Final Day.

The two sides haven’t met since Round 1, 2021 where the Lions overcame gusty conditions to lock away their first win of what would become their Premiership-winning season.

Round 5 with a Finals feeling twist? Yeah, we wanna be there for that!

 5. Adelaide Showdown

It’s one of the longest and most exciting rivalries in the competition and it’s back in Queensland for Season 7.

You’ll want to be there when Brisbane take on their long time rivals, the Adelaide Crows under lights at Metricon on Friday October 14.

The highly anticipated match-up falls on Pride Round, which will see the Lions don their Pride guernsey in celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community and diversity in football.

The last time these two sides met was the 2021 Grand Final re-match Round 1, 2022 where the Lions fell to a damaging Adelaide side, 39-9. Given their history, there’s no doubt the Lions will be out to even the ledger in Season 7.
