There’s just seven days left until the Brisbane Lions take on Fremantle in Round 1 of the NAB AFLW Season 7 at the Gabba. We’ve taken a look at five players we think you need to watch this season.

#1 Emily Bates

When you’re talking about players to watch, it’s hard to go past the reigning W-medallist.

With a career best 2022 season, Emily Bates look set to take her game up another notch in Season 7 after a massive pre-season.

The 26-year-old wiped more than 30 seconds off her personal best in the 2km time trial and has put together another strong pre-season that will see her remain a threat in the eyes of the opposition in Season 7.

#6 Lily Postlethwaite

After missing the last season and a half with an ACL injury, Lily Postlethwaite will be looking to push her way back in Head Coach Craig Starcevich’s Best 22 in Season 7.

The silky defender returned to competitive football earlier this year via the QAFLW with the Maroochydore Roos, and if her dominant performances in the State League are anything to go by, Postlethwaite could be set for a big back end of 2022.

#11 Phoebe Monahan

After establishing herself as a regular member of the Lions’ backline unit, Phoebe Monahan looks set to build on the confidence she gained in the 2022 season in Season 7.

Putting together one of her strongest and most consistent seasons to date earlier this year, Monahan will be looking to showcase her safe hands, good decision making and football skills once again in Season 7.

#15 Greta Bodey

Coming into her own in the 2022 season, Greta Bodey will be one for fans to watch in Season 7.

The skilful forward had opposition sitting up and paying attention with her agility and speed in the Lions’ forward 50, while her goal kicking saw Bodey named the Lions Leading Goalkicker for the 2022 season.

With a strong 2022 season and another tough pre-season under her belt, Bodey’s on-field confidence looks set to continue to grow into Season 7.

#19 Luka Yoshida-Martin

Fans saw glimpses of Luka Yoshida-Martin’s talent and skill in her debut season and will be one to keep an eye on again in Season 7.

The 21-year-old tested her hard pre-season of work in last week’s practice match against St Kilda, showcasing her pressure and football smarts in a solid hit-out to kick off her Season 7 campaign.
