The Brisbane Lions are deeply saddened by the loss of former Fitzroy and Brisbane player and coach, Robert Walls, who passed away on Thursday age 74.
Walls played 41 games for Fitzroy before coaching the team on 115 occasions.
The AFL legend then took on the coaching reins of Brisbane for 109 matches from 1991-95 and is a member of the Lions Hall of Fame.
Walls is the longest serving Bears coach and second longest serving coach (combined) in Club history, only behind triple-premiership coach Leigh Matthews.
Following his retirement from coaching, Walls became a respected and influential media figure and has been a mentor to so many in the Lions family, always keen and willing to help.
Brisbane Lions CEO, Greg Swann, said the thoughts of the entire Club were with Walls’ family.
“Wallsy made a massive contribution to our club and the game as a player, coach and commentator,” Swann said.
“His fingerprints were all across the club’s three-peat of successes and we will honour Robert by wearing black armbands in our match against Melbourne at The Gabba on Sunday.”
Further acknowledgement and celebration of Walls’ contribution to the Club will be shared in the coming days.
