Brisbane Lions defender Jack Payne has started his recovery following knee surgery on Monday to repair his ruptured patellar tendon.

Payne sustained the knee injury in the opening quarter on Saturday against GWS.

It was confirmed on Sunday that the premiership defender would miss the rest of the 2025 season with the Club throwing its support behind Payne.

The Lions injury list shortened last week with the return of defender Brandon Starcevich and forward Sam Day at AFL level and Oscar McInerney playing VFL.

Ruck-forward Henry Smith and defender Keidean Coleman continue to build up their training loads during their recovery.

Following Friday night’s clash with Geelong, the Lions head into their first bye of the year which allow the team to freshen up before the second half of the season.
