The Brisbane Lions have rewarded utility Bruce Reville with a new one-year contract to remain at Brighton Homes Arena until at least the end of 2026.
Reville, a graduate of the Youi Brisbane Lions Academy, arrived at the Club as a Category B rookie in the 2023 Rookie Draft.
The 25-year-old made his debut against the Gold Coast SUNS in Round 8 last year before going on to play 11 games and being offered a contract for 2025.
Reville, despite being sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring injury earlier this year, has featured at AFL level five times this season for five wins.
The Papua New Guinea-born Reville said he was delighted to be offered another contract to stay at the Lions.
“I’m just so grateful for the opportunity the club has given me and my family,” Reville said.
“Obviously my journey to the AFL was a bit longer than most so it makes these moments just a little more special to us.
“It’s a privilege to wear this jersey and to be able to do that for another year is special.”
Reville’s journey to the AFL, starting in Cairns before moving to Burrum Heads, Maryborough and then Brisbane, has been one full of persistence and resilience.
After being overlooked in his draft year, Reville worked multiple jobs while playing for the Brisbane Lions VFL team before securing a spot on the Club’s AFL list.
That journey is the reason why he said he is not taking his new contract for granted or looking too far ahead.
“I just want for focus on what 2025 is going to look like me and the club and be ready for any opportunity that comes my way,” Reville said.
“The goal for the rest of this year is just to play consistently good footy and be ready to do whatever the team needs me to.”
In his 17 AFL games to date, Reville has proven to be a silky mover with a penetrating kick who can play midfield, up forward or down back.
Brisbane Lions General Manager Football, Danny Daly said he was thrilled for Reville who thoroughly deserved the new contract.
“It’s a great reward for Bruce because he is as committed as any player in wanting to get the best out of themselves and reaching their full potential,” Daly said
“To see him come through the Youi Brisbane Lions Academy into our VFL program and now be signed on for his third season of AFL is fantastic.
“Bruce has shown he is more than capable at AFL level, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop his game across the next 18 months.
“We are rapt to have Bruce, his partner Zoe and their family staying at the Lions.”
