This NAIDOC week, the Brisbane Lions, reaffirmed their partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander preventative health program, Deadly Choices, for 2025.

As we celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC in 2025, partnering with Deadly Choices is a clear choice in the clubs continued support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.

Deadly Choices, an Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd. preventative health program, empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to take control of their health through good nutrition, regular physical activity, not smoking or vaping and to connect with their Community Controlled Health Service (CCHS) for a 715 Health Check.

A 715 Health Check is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health check focused on key areas of risk.

This year brings strengthened collaboration to the Deadly Choices and Brisbane Lions’ agreement, with increased activity for the Brisbane Lions’ AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round, AFLW Indigenous Round and both team’s annual Brisbane Long Walks.

The partnership also reveals the latest Deadly Choices x Brisbane Lions 715 Health Check Shirt to the existing range.

The shirt based on the Brisbane Lion’s 2024 Sir Doug Nicholls guernsey was designed by the team’s star forward, Lardil Waanyi man, Charlie Cameron and his family.

Most importantly, the shirt will be available to community members who complete a 715 Health Check at participating CCHSs across Australia.

In 2023/24, the Deadly Choices shirt incentives contributed to 23,732 health checks being completed by South East Queensland’s CCHSs.

Cameron shared his joy at the reinvigorated partnership knowing his design will directly impact the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.

“I’ve always been big supporter of our club’s partnership with Deadly Choices and I’m excited to see it grow and continue to support our Mob and our health.”

“It’s deadly to know the piece my family and I have created will benefit our community so greatly.

“I can’t wait to see the Deadly Choices Brisbane Lions shirt at all our upcoming games and just around town, but more importantly I’d encourage everyone to get their 715 Health checks and take control of their health.”

Deadly Choices’ Director of Commercial Operations and proud Kalkadoon and Waanyi man, Dallas Leon, praised the enhanced partnership.

“Our relationship with the Brisbane Lions dates back to 2016 and this agreement brings even more opportunities for Deadly Choices and the Lions to use the vehicle of sport to empower our people to make Deadly Choices for themselves and their families.”

Lions CEO Greg Swann was also proud of the continued growth of the partnership over the past ten years.

“We have always been strong supporters of Deadly Choices and the important work they do for community.

“I’m proud to continue the evolution of this partnership and know that our club is making an impactful difference in the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members across the South East Queensland region and further.”

The Brisbane Lions and Deadly Choices will continue to work together to empower community members to make healthy choices for themselves and their families throughout the remainder of 2025.

The Brisbane Lions x Deadly Choices 715 Health Check shirt is available now at participating CCHS nationwide.
