MIDFIELD coach Simon Black says the Lions are determined to sustain their match intensity for longer.

Brisbane have kicked just one goal in their last three final quarters against Adelaide, Fremantle and Sydney.

Reflecting on Sunday’s match against top-four side the Swans at The Gabba, Black said the Lions had proven they can take it up to quality opposition but ultimately it was disappointing to not get the win.

“It’s a bit of a million dollar question how can we sustain that effort for longer.

“Three weeks in a row we’ve proven we can get to three quarter time and we’re right in the game. I guess it’s a bit of competitive maturity, stronger bodies the last few weeks in Fremantle and the Swans”, he said.

“The contested ball we dropped away a bit in the last quarter, that might have been the difference at the end of the game. We’ve just got to be a bit stronger for longer.”

Black said the experience of leaders Tom Rockliff and Pearce Hanley who returned from injury was invaluable.

“Rocky and Pearce were good for us on the weekend, they’re only going to get better.

“They’ve all missed a fair bit of footy this year, it was very good to have them back in. They both use the ball really cleverly and they help organise and direct out there for the younger players around them.”
