LIONS Defensive Skills Coach Mitch Hahn says the future is bright for Harris Andrews.

In a season that has not gone to plan for the Lions, Andrews, along with fellow youngster Jaden McGrath, have emerged as beacons for hope during a bleak winter. The pair have captivated the football landscape with their bravery and football maturity and both appear to have long futures in the game.

Andrews, in his first season of senior football, has played 12 games since his debut in round three proving to be a versatile prospect, carrying a reliable set of hands.

“Harris has been terrific all year. The beauty of it is he’s been able to play forward and back”, Hahn said in this Week’s Vero Coaches Wrap.

“For his education and development, for the future of the Brisbane Lions Football Club, to be able to play both ends has been really something exciting for us as coaches to see.”

The 18-year old was a product of the Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy, nominated by Brisbane as an Academy Selection, pick 61 overall in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

“He’s 200cm, so in the future he may even go into the ruck. He has spent some time in there as well. He’s a really versatile player and on the weekend really showed that he can mark the ball down the line, he’s showed that all season.”

Hahn is confident it won’t be long until Andrews receives the plaudits he deserves with a NAB Rising Star Nomination likely in the future.

“If he continues to go the way he is going I think there will be no doubt he’ll get a Rising Star nod.”
