The Brisbane Lions will provide information shortly on how you can get involved in the Club’s own AFL Fantasy Dream Team competition.
In the meantime, lions.com.au takes a closer at some of the notable Lions players in fantasy land this season.
LIONS TOP 10 (based on 2013 price-tag)
The following players have earned hefty price tags based on their Dream Team performance in 2012. Jack Redden has been the Club’s leading point-scorer for the past two seasons, while Dayne Zorko has rocketed up the ranks following his stunning debut season. New recruit Stefan Martin also sneaks inside the Lions’ top 10 after averaging 76.86 points across his seven matches with Melbourne last year.
1. Jack Redden (MID) - $531,100
2. Dayne Zorko (MID/FWD) - $487,800
3. Tom Rockliff (MID/FWD) - $481,700
4. Daniel Rich (MID) - $439,000
5. Pearce Hanley (DEF) - $425,300
6. Simon Black (MID) - $421,300
7. Jed Adcock (DEF) - $418,000
8. Jonathan Brown (FWD) - $409,600
9. Mitch Golby (DEF) - $379,700
10. Stefan Martin (RUC/FWD) - $356,400
There are a number of potential great investments among the Lions team in 2013.
Sam Docherty, who has been a standout on the track over summer, presents great value at $108,500, while first round draft pick Sam Mayes will also be tempting at $152,200.
But Brent Staker could prove the find of 2013, listed at the bargain price of $132,600 after undergoing two consecutive knee reconstructions. When he played every game for the Lions in 2010, Staker averaged 73.5 points per game – proof that he can rack up good scores should his knee hold up.
Like Staker, Matthew Leuenberger has been severely undervalued ($233,600) due to injury. In 2011, Leuenberger was one of the top-scoring ruckman in the League and will be in the sights of most coaches.
Finally, it’s hard to ignore midfielder Brent Moloney’s modest $309,800 price tag. Despite producing an average return by his standards last season, the Lions’ off-season signing averaged more than 86 points across his previous four seasons. He’s a ball magnet and should slot into the Lions’ midfield straight away.
DUAL POSITION PLAYERS (DPP)
Dual position players – players who can move between two positions on the Dream Team field – are critical in giving your team added flexibility.
Tom Rockliff is one who will attract interest from coaches given he is now considered a midfielder AND forward, after being listed as only a midfielder last year. Daniel Merrett’s foray up forward in 2012 has also earned him DPP status this season.
