The Brisbane Lions today acquired developing key forward Jackson Paine from Collingwood in a straight swap that will see Patrick Karnezis join the Magpies.

194cm Paine has played six senior games with Collingwood since being drafted with Pick No.50 in the 2011 AFL National Draft, and has booted at least one goal in each of them.

A noted strong-marker with good running ability, he performed well in attack during the 2011 NAB AFL U18 Championships and was part of Sandringham's TAC Cup U18 Premiership side.

Lions National Talent Manager Rob Kerr said Paine’s recruitment would provide the Club with another tall option up forward.

“With Collingwood having such a wealth of key forwards, Jackson has identified a real opportunity up in Brisbane,” Kerr said.

“He’s still only young and developing, but has the attributes to suggest that he could become an important player in our forward structure.

“He’s a competitive and aggressive type of player who is quick for his size and had 70 shots on goal in the VFL last season.”

Karnezis played 21 games in three seasons with the Lions after being recruited with Pick No.25 at the 2010 AFL National Draft.

He was a member of the Lions’ 2013 NAB Cup premiership side and also played in the Reserves’ 2012 NEAFL Grand Final triumph.
