It’s been 18 years since the Brisbane Lions were formed from a merger between Fitzroy and the Bears, however Melbourne-based supporters can still re-live the ‘old days’ by touring the Fitzroy-Brisbane Lions Historical Society Museum at Etihad Stadium.

The Museum, which officially opened in November 2011, has been further extended over the past two and a half years.

Late last year a selection of new cabinets were created to display rare memorabilia items loaned from some of Fitzroy’s all-time greats such as Kevin Murray, Garry Wilson, and John Murphy.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Historical Society, and the tireless efforts of Custodian Arthur Wilson, further additions are scheduled to be made in the coming weeks.

If you haven’t already viewed the Museum, or would like to take another look, you can organise a guided tour by contacting the Fitzroy-Brisbane Lions Historical Society.

Tours will be conducted at Etihad Stadium every Wednesday throughout 2014.

Fitzroy and Brisbane Lions fans, along with football lovers in general, will enjoy the extensive collection of Club memorabilia, which includes seven of Fitzroy’s premiership cups and a range of other items dating back to 1883.

The first tour commences at 12pm, and will be followed by a second at 2pm.

Tours are FREE for all 2014 Historical Society members, while non-member adults ($5) and pensioners/students ($4) will be charged a small fee.

ETIHAD STADIUM TOURS

Fans can also choose to take a complete tour of Etihad Stadium, which includes a visit to the change rooms, coaches’ box, playing arena, world cricket player displays, and many other interesting areas of the stadium – including the Historical Society Museum, of course.

Full Etihad Stadium tours are $20 for adults and $14 for pensioners/students.

To complete your visit, why not bring a group of family and friends and make a day of it? You can even stop for lunch in the Captain’s Bar, which overlooks the playing arena, and offers tea and coffee, sandwiches, and light meals at very reasonable prices.

Bookings for both tours are essential, and can be made by contacting;
