Pearce Hanley has come under the scrutiny of the AFL Match Review Panel for making negligent contact with an umpire.

Hanley was charged for making negligent contact with umpire Matthew Leppard during the third quarter of last Saturday night's match against Collingwood.

It's the Irishman's first offence of this nature, which means he faces a $1,200 fine. However, if Hanley takes an early guilty plea, the penalty is reduced by 25% to a $900 sanction.

In related news, star Fremantle midfielder Nat Fyfe is facing two weeks on sidelines after being charged with a Level Three offence for striking Hawthorn's Jordan Lewis during their Round 21 encounter at Subiaco.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Hawthorn Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three Offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of four matches suspended within the last two years, increasing the penalty by 20 per cent to 270 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He also has 6.25 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 276.25 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 207.19 points and a two-match sanction.

Unless Fyfe and Fremantle decide to challenge the charge, he will almost certainly miss Sunday's clash against the Lions in Round 22.

The Lions won't be too disappointed with the outcome, considering Fyfe was arguably best on ground when the two sides last met in Round 14 this year.
