Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy product Jonathan Freeman might have only played three senior matches, but so far he’s been making the most of his opportunities.

In fact, eight of Freeman’s nine career kicks have resulted in scores – six of which have been goals.

His current goal/disposal strike rate of 67% is quite remarkable, and shows how damaging he can be when the ball is in his hands.

The challenge now for the 20-year-old Sunshine Coaster is to create more opportunities and have an even greater impact on the scoreboard.

Across his first three games, Freeman has averaged just 3.0 kicks, 2.3 handballs, 2 marks, and one tackles – but that’s been balanced by his six goals and four contested marks.

Assistant Coach Simon Black, who is responsible for the Lions forwards, says Freeman is an exciting prospect for the Club’s future.

“Jono’s showed some really good signs over the last couple of weeks,” Black told LionsTV as part of the Vero Coaches’ Wrap.

“He’s taken a couple of really nice marks, but it would be nice of him to take a couple more. He’s had some opportunities where the ball has slipped through his hands.

“At least he’s getting a crack at the ball and jumping for it. He’s only going to improve in time.

“Hopefully he can be a long-term player for us and kick a lot of goals for the Club.”
