In the fourth instalment of “Browny – The People’s Champ”, Lions TV followed retired Brisbane Lions champion Jonathan Brown around his home in the lead-up to the team’s Round 13 clash against Greater Western Sydney at the Gabba.

Brown not only opened up his home and gave glimpses into his family life, but he also shared his regular pre-game rituals and mood.

“I think you get to game day and there’s not a lot you can do. For me the preparation is Monday to Friday – game day is a time to relax,” Brown told Lions TV as part of the exclusive video.

“Now I’ve got kids, I enjoy their company and have a bit of fun with them.

“The last thing you want to be doing is stewing on the game too early as it takes a lot of emotional energy out of you.

“I don’t tend to get too nervous. I just like to play with the kids, muck around and do all the basic things that dad’s do I suppose.”

As fate would have it, that particular match against the Giants would prove to be Brown’s last, with a severe concussion suffered early in the game ultimately forcing him into retirement.

“It’s pretty rare footage isn’t it, filming a guy before his last game and he doesn’t even know it,” Brown said upon reflection.

“It just shows how much you’ve got to live in the moment and make the most of it. Obviously I knew I was in the twilight of my career, but I didn’t know it was my last game.

“It’s quite funny seeing that footage really. It’s almost like ‘The Walking Dead’. Little did I know that a couple of hours later that it was going to be all over.”
