Brisbane Lions star Pearce Hanley was among the standouts for Ireland in the International Rules practice match against a VFL representative squad on Sunday.

Hanley did, however, sit out the entire final quarter after receiving a heavy knock to his jaw during the third term.

Thankfully there was no damage done, meaning he’ll be fine to represent Ireland in Saturday’s clash against Australia at Patersons Stadium in Perth.

Hanley is the only AFL-listed player in the Irish squad, but will be joined by another former Lion in Colm Begley.

Begley, who played 29 senior matches with the Club from 2006-08, also impressed in Sunday’s hitout.

The Irish pair will be attempting to maintain their country’s recent dominance over Australia in International Rules Series matches.

Australia, meanwhile, will boast a star-studded line-up made-up from the AFL’s absolute elite.

Two-time Lions Club Champion Tom Rockliff is the only Lions player in the Australian squad.

The 2014 International Rules Series will be broadcast nationally this Saturday night at the following times:

Melbourne -
8:30pm (Channel 7)
Sydney - 8:30pm (7mate)
Brisbane - 7:30pm (7mate)
Adelaide - 8:00pm (Channel 7)
Perth - 5:30pm (7mate)

The match will be broadcast live on radio by SEN (Melb), ABC (Melb, Adel, Perth), and 6PR (Perth)
