It’s time for Brisbane to get behind their Lions - and Get To The Gabba!

With just one month until the Round 1 blockbuster against Collingwood at the Gabba, the Club today launched its home game campaign for 2015 – “Get To The Gabba”.

Ticket sales for the Easter Saturday clash have been running hot, with more than 3500 already snapped up – more than double that sold at the same time last year for the opening home game against Geelong – while the Club today surged past 20,000 members, more than 1,000 up on the same time in 2014.

Brisbane Lions star signings Dayne Beams and Allen Christensen launched the “Get To The Gabba” campaign overlooking the ground, calling on all Lions supporters to get behind the team in 2015.

Supporters were also urged to take to social media using the #GetToTheGabba hashtag and make a noise about why they love watching footy at iconic Queensland stadium.

“It’s one of the best places to play and watch sport in Australia and it would be great to pack the place out for our home games” said Beams, who will be the centre of attention when he takes on former Club Collingwood in Round 1.

“There’s nothing better than a Gabba crowd in full swing and we can’t wait to kick off the season, so make sure you all Get To The Gabba!”

Christensen agreed, saying the Gabba crowd always played a factor when he travelled to play with the Geelong Cats, before signing with the Lions during the off-season.

“The roar is pretty intimidating when the crowd gets going,” he said. “We want to make it the kind of place that visiting teams don’t want to come to and part of that is getting big crowds making big noise, so I’d encourage everyone to get on board for 2015.”

The Lions will play a host of the AFL’s biggest-drawing Clubs at the Gabba this year including Collingwood, Richmond and Carlton, as well as clashes with last year’s Grand Finalist Sydney, Preliminary Finalists Port Adelaide and North Melbourne, as well as the return bout of the QClash against the Gold Coast Suns in Round 19.

Lions CEO Greg Swann said a range of new initiatives were being finalised that would make Match Day at the Gabba a greatly enhanced experience for everyone.

“We are about the fans, pure and simple, said Swann. “We have done a lot of work to improve the way we go about things both and off the field, and a big part of that is improving things for our supporters.

“The Gabba was always a place that visiting teams didn’t want to come to,  it was called the Gabbatoir and names like that , and we want to make it a fortress for our team once again.

“Our strong membership figure, passing the 20,000 mark today,  shows that people are giving us a go and we’d ask more people out there to do the same and Get To The Gabba.”
