MIDFIELD COACH Simon Black says the Lions must nullify the impact of West Coast’s experienced midfielders if they are to win on Sunday.

The Lions take on the Eagles at the Gabba and Black says the Vero Coaching Team have identified West Coast’s midfield brigade as the danger men.

“There are a couple of the key guys we need to get on top of in the middle of the ground.

“Their Brownlow Medallist in Matt Priddis is a very good ball user and distributor, if we can shut his impact down in the game it’s going to go a far way.

“Luke Shuey’s also very good,” Black said.

“We need to be a lot better at closing their space and not allowing that easy transition from one side of the ground to the other.

“We haven’t won the contested ball yet (this season) and that’s a big part of the game, clearly. We just need a lot more repeats efforts going inside forward 50.

“West Coast have a couple of very good forwards in Josh Kennedy and Mark LeCras so if the ball is going down that end a fair bit, we may well be in trouble.

“Hopefully we can get our first win in that area on the weekend.”
