Brisbane Lions Vice-Captain Dayne Zorko is in for the long-haul – and says the future is looking bright for the Club.

Zorko, speaking to ABC Radio’s Northern Exposure program, said the young group has plenty of talent and is headed in the right direction.

“I’m extremely committed to seeing the rebuild of the Club through,” said Zorko.

“A lot of blokes have come and gone from the Club in the four years that I have been here but the group we have here at the moment, the young kids coming through, there’s a lot of really good signs.

“If we can keep adding to that, like we did with Dayne Bemas and Bundy Christensen and Mitch Robinson adding experience around the group, then I’m committed as ever because it looks like an extremely bright future at the Lions.

“It’s a difficult time for everyone and it’s important that we do stay patient … the boys understand what we require and what we have to do to make it happen and make sure that we win.

“The process is going to take a little while but we want to make sure that every game we take a step in the right direction.”
Zorko said the fast turnaround at other Clubs across the AFL showed that success was not far away for the Brisbane Lions.

“You look at the Clubs that have turned around pretty quickly with the lists they had … not many people expected clubs like the Western Bulldogs this year and Port Adelaide last year, to turn around as quickly as they did,’ he said.

“But they had a lot of hope and a lot of faith that … anything is possible.

“Hopefully we can do the same thing next year and get back up the ladder.

“The main thing we need – and it’s well documented – is a key forward, a mature target as we go forward to give our great young kids up there some support.”

Zorko said the impact of Dayne Beams across the Club could not be underestimated.

“Inside these four walls, Dayne provides huge leadership and maturity,” said Zorko.

“ Having played in Premierships, he knows what it takes so the information he gives to the younger players, as well as the way he goes about his job, he’s very professional.

“He provides a lot for our Club, especially being such a young list.”
