In the wake of what has been a tough 2015 season, the Brisbane Lions will head into this year’s NAB AFL Draft in Adelaide on Tuesday 24 November determined to recruit some of the country’s best young talent to help turn the Club’s fortunes around in the not-too-distant future.

And, for the first time in the Lions’ merged history, the Club will be armed with the second selection overall (Pick No.2).

The Club has, of course, held Pick No.2 five times in the past courtesy of its combined history with both Fitzroy and the Bears.

In fact, the Bears famously landed a skinny wingman from Chiltern named Nigel Lappin with Pick No.2 in 1993, who went on to become a triple premiership player and one of the Club’s all-time greats.

Matthew Primus (Fitzroy’s Pick No.2 in 1995) and Chris McDermott (Bears’ Pick No.2 in 1987) also forged long and successful careers, albeit with opposition clubs.

Whichever way you look at it, the Club is set to land one of the hottest young properties in the country – but exactly who that might be won’t be known for certain until that last week of November.

In addition to the No.2 selection, the Club will likely boast a number of other quality picks, and will also have their sights on some promising local Queensland talent from the Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy.

With much interest surrounding this year’s AFL Draft, the Brisbane Lions will be hosting a special LIVE and private screening of the event in Melbourne on Tuesday 24 November 2015 from 6pm.

Guests will be treated to an in-depth analysis of the Draft as it happens from actual Club recruiters – David Dunbar (AFL List Analyst) and John Giramondo (Talent Scout) – and shown exclusive vision of the Lions’ draftees as they’re selected.

Tickets for this one-time-only event are $70 for 2015 Brisbane Lions members – $80 for non-members – and also include canapés (with drinks available at bar prices), and a souvenir Draft booklet.

The event is limited to the first 100 guests and will serve as the first (and potentially only) opportunity to secure a 2016 player sponsorship for one of our new recruits.

We hope you can get along and support this new initiative.
