In Part One of Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch’s Season Review, he looks at Contest Work, Stoppages and what the Lions will be hoping to improve on in 2016.

Lions.com.au highlights a few key points from Leppitsch’s Review below.

Contest work:

“When you break down contested ball there’s two components:  there’s the part that’s in a stoppage or in the clearance and there’s the part that’s outside the stoppage.

“We were pretty good at that this year, it was an improvement on last season – going from 17th in the AFL to 9th in that pre clearance area. The recruitment of Beams, Christensen and Robinson obviously helped in that part.

Stoppage:

“In stoppage we improved, and it’s an area we want to keep bettering ourselves. It’s a really good effort by Danny Daly and his work this year around stoppage…

“If you break it right down our loose ball gets were AFL 1st and hard balls gets were AFL 17th.

“You can see just as a stoppage perspective our hard ball gets will be a real focus for us in the pre-season.

Contested Possession:

“For two years in a row we’ve been the worst team in the competition in that part of the ground, it will be a real focus for us in the pre-season.”
