Forward Josh Green will return to the Lions’ main training group this week as continues his rehabilitation from surgery.

Green was dealt a blow in early January when it was revealed he was expected to miss 10 weeks with a fractured foot – the same foot that cost the 23-year-old six matches last season with a stress fracture.

“He’s got in a bunch of really good running sessions and he’s actually going to start training with the main group this week,” Lions Head of Physiotherapy Shane Lemcke told LionsTV.

In February, lions.com.au released a statement on defender Justin Clarke ruling the 22-year-old out of football indefinitely due to concussion.

He suffered a head knock at training on January 18, falling to the ground heavily after a pack mark contest.

“Justin’s slowly improving from the concussion he had in January,” Lemcke said.

“He’s going through a number of neuro-psych tests so we can establish exactly where he is at.

“He’s progressing on those but there is still no time frame on his return at this stage.”

Cian Hanley will continue his rehabilitation from groin surgery.

Hanley spent much 2015 recovering from his ACL, before a decision was made by Lions medical staff that the 19-year old would require groin surgery.

“Cian’s on the indefinite list at the moment.

“He’s got a really complex groin problem that’s going to take some time to settle.”

Michael Close (knee), Claye Beams (knee), Trent West (knee) and Darcy Gardiner (ankle and shoulder) all returned for the Reserves on Saturday after injury ended their 2015 seasons.

Lemcke said their return to match fitness went as expected.

“We had four players return through the twos on the weekend.”

“Darcy had no problem with his shoulder or ankle which he had operated on last year.

“There were no dramas, all got through well.”
