In this week’s Vero Coaches Wrap, Danny Daly dissects Saturday’s loss to North Melbourne.

Lions.com.au covers the main points below.

Missed Opportunities

“I think everyone knows what the area of improvement is this week – our goal kicking.

“We missed too many opportunities at goal which against a side like North Melbourne who played in last year’s preliminary final it comes back to haunt you.

“We kicked 11.17 (83) – 18 scoring shots. They only had four more scoring shots on the weekend.

“Scoreboard pressure is crucial for a young side like ours.

“The boys are out on The Gabba this morning, simulating all these shots so it doesn’t happen again.

“From 40-50 metres out was our real bad area on the weekend. It was where we missed the majority of goals.

Mozzie Power

“I thought our little ‘Mozzie Squad’ went well for us on the weekend. We want our little guys kicking as many goals as we can.

“’Zorks’ ability to get to every contest – he had 24 possessions, 2 goals, 5 inside 50s and 5 tackles. It was a good first game for him this year. We obviously missed him against the West Coast Eagles.

“Squizzy had 22 possessions, 2 goals, 5 inside 50s and two tackles. Squiz has got very good agility to get around opposition and get shots on goal.

“They’re going to be very important to us this year.”

Walker and Schache

“Josh Schache and Josh Walker had seven contested marks between them for the game. They’re starting to get a lot more synergy with each other.

“If we can get these guys taking between 7-10 contested marks a week it’s going to give us enormous opportunity.”
