Young forward Michael Close and defender Hugh Beasley have suffered injury setbacks in Sunday’s Reserves loss to Redland.

Close fractured his right wrist and injured a ligament in his right foot in a separate incident.

“Michael unfortunately sustained a couple of injuries,” Lions Head of Phsiotherapy Shane Lemcke told LionsTV.

“He broke a bone in his hand as well as straining a ligament in his foot. That’s likely to keep him out for about six weeks for those two injuries.”

It’s an untimely injury for the 21-year-old who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in round two against North Melbourne last season and was finding form through the Lions’ reserves.

Beasley will also miss at least the next fortnight after he fractured two bones in his back in Sunday’s Reserves match loss to Redland.

In other injury news, midfielder Daniel Rich (hamstring) will need to get through main training on Thursday if he is to be selected in the Lions’ squad to take on the SUNS on Saturday.

“Dan is back running and running reasonably freely.

“He’ll have to train on Thursday with the team to be ready to play in the QClash on the weekend.”

Lemcke said although progressing well, skipper Tom Rockliff will need another week to recover from his calf injury.

Meanwhile, midfielder Dayne Beams continues to advance in his rehabilitation from knee tendinitis. The 26-year-old began running last week.

“Dayne has put together a few good running sessions in a row.

"It’s now a matter of getting him back into some training with the boys. Once he’s got through a few meaningful training sessions then I’m sure the coaches will consider him for selection,” Lemcke said.
