The Brisbane Lions defence is expected to be bolstered for our Round 12 clash against Fremantle at the Gabba on Saturday.

Harris Andrews (foot) and Darcy Gardiner (finger) will both be back in the frame for selection after recovering from their injuries. Both will be tested throughout the week in order to prove their fitness.

Andrews has spent the last four week’s in the stands after injuring his foot against Port Adelaide in Round 7. The 200cm big man has been missed in our defence.

Gardiner is recovering from a dislocated finger which occurred at training a few weeks ago.

Also expected to return is Brisbane Lions utility Rohan Bewick, who hasn’t played since our Round 8 game against Collingwood after suffering a groin injury. With Allen Christensen expected to miss the next 8 weeks after breaking his collarbone against Carlton on the weekend, Bewick is expected to come straight back into the side. Re-commiting to the Club earlier in the week, Bewick was in great form prior to his injury, averaging 14 disposals and kicking three goals.

There are also some players who are knocking on the door for Senior selection in the Reserves.

Unlucky to be omitted from the Seniors last week, Rhys ‘Beast Mode’ Mathieson was a stand out performer in last weekend’s NEAFL game against Canberra. He finished the game with 29 disposals and made 8 tackles.

There’s also a bit of competition in the forward line with Josh Walker kicking five goals in the Reserves against the Suns in Round 9, while Liam Dawson also kicked five and Eric Hipwood kicked 4. After a string of strong performances, could Hipwood be the next young Lion to make his debut?
