It was an exciting match at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon when we defeated Carlton in a match which saw a thrilling final few minutes.

An incredible first-half performance from the Lions was led by Dayne Zorko who had the second-best first-half ever recorded (27.9 points), according to Schick AFL Player Ratings.

Zorko had 19 touches, 10 inside 50s and four goal assists by the end of the first half and finished wtih 27 disposals and three goals.

Captain Tom Rockliff also led the way with 39 disposals, 12 tackles and two goals while Mitch Robinson tore it up with 22 disposals and 11 huge tackles.

Michael Close showed us what we've been missing as he kicked four goals in his second game after returning from an ACL injury.

Defenders Darcy Garinder and Harris Andrews were also exceptional in keeping Carlton under wraps.

In his post-match press conference, Coach Justin Leppitsch said he was proud of his defensive group, who was able to stave off the avalanche of opportunities.

"Our young defenders are great competitors and you know it's a good sign when you're a coach and the ball gets kicked in there and you know Harris (Andrews) is there, you come at ease," he said.

"It's a good sign.

"He's developed that sort of consistency in this game and the faith I've got in him, the high ball, I just know it's either going to be killed or he's going to mark it. It's an amazing effort for a second year player."
