Tom Bell could make a surprise return to the Lions’ line-up to take on Geelong on Sunday at the Gabba.

It was initially thought that Bell would miss the remainder of the 2016 season after having surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in June, but the 25-year-old has trained strongly in recent weeks and is a chance to return against the Cats.

“It will depend how he travels throughout the two training sessions during the week but we’re hopeful (he) will be available,” Lions Head of Physiotherapy Shane Lemcke said.

In further injury news, Nick Robertson and Josh Green will miss the remaining two rounds of the season with injury.

Robertson has a minor strain of his medial collateral ligament while Green has a stress reaction in his foot.

“It’s the second time Nick has done it so he’ll miss the rest of this year to allow that to heal well,” Lemcke said.

“Josh unfortunately has a stress reaction in his fourth metatarsal in his right foot which will end his season as well.”

Meanwhile Josh McGuinness may return from a hamstring injury in the Lions’ Reserves match against the Giants on Saturday.
