The Brisbane Lions are proud to announce Emma Zielke as their priority pick ahead of the 2017 AFL National Women’s League Season.

Zielke is among Queensland's most decorated female footballers, being the state captain and reigning Queensland Women Australian Football League (QWAFL) Best and Fairest winner.

In line with the AFL’s list build guidelines, the Brisbane Lions are able to pre-sign Zielke due to her existing relationship with the Club.

Zielke is employed by the Lions as an Admin Support Officer.

“Emma is one of the brightest stars of our women’s game, so to secure her is terrific,” said Brisbane Lions Women’s CEO Breanna Brock.

“To have her stay in Queensland and at the Club is a huge coup for us.”

Zielke said she was taken by surprise when the news of her signing came through.

“It came as a surprise,” Zeilke said.

“Craig had told me only a week before that they wouldn’t take me as their priority pick.

“It’s a good surprise nonetheless, I get to stay in my home state and with my family and friends.”

Under the AFL's guidelines, Brisbane, Adelaide and GWS will all be eligible for a second priority pick in the coming week.
