GEELONG midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has capped his glittering season with the most prestigious individual award of all, breaking records to win the 2016 Brownlow Medal.

Dangerfield polled a record 35 votes to win from Sydney Swans midfielder Luke Parker (26) and Richmond star Dustin Martin (25), breaking away in a thrilling finish at Crown Palladium.

The Brisbane Lions finished the 2016 Brownlow Medal count with a total of 20 votes.

Tom Rockliff was the Lions' highest vote getter, polling a total of 9 votes. Rockliff had three games where he polled the maximum of three votes.

The first game that Rockliff polled maximum votes was in the Lions' loss to Carlton in Round 11. Returning from a Hamstring injury, the Brisbane Lions Captain finished with 48 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 13 clearances, nine tackles and a goal to his name.

The second game was the Lions' Round 18 win against Essendon at Etihad Stadium. Rockliff finished this game with 38 disposals and nine tackles.

Rockliff's final three vote game was the Lions' nail-biting win against Carlton at the Gabba in Round 21.

2016 Merrett-Murray Medallist Dayne Zorko finished Brownlow night with 5 votes. Polling one vote in Round 4 against the SUNS, two votes in Round 6 against the Swans and two votes in Round 21 against Carlton.

Pearce Hanley and Mitch Robinson both received 3 votes each.

Hanley received the maximum three votes for his performance against the SUNS in Round 4, while Robinson received two votes for his performance against West Coast in Round 13, along with one vote in the Lions' Round 18 win against the Bombers.
