The Brisbane Lions have claimed the number 2 selection for the upcoming AFL Women's draft which will be held on October 12.

The order was decided via a lottery at the Grand Final Comedy Debate at Crown Palladium. A representative from each club selected a footy from a barrel, with the number on the footy correlating to the club’s first draft pick.

Brisbane Lions AFL Women's Coach Craig Starcevich was the second to pick a ball from the barrel and selected the football with the number 2 on it.

The draft held in October will follow a snaking order (i.e – a Club will have pick 1 & 16, 2 & 15, 3 & 14… & so on).

The GWS Giants received pick one, meaning they will receive pick 1 and 16 in the first two rounds, while we will have pick 2 and 15.

Carlton will hold pick three, followed by Fremantle, the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Adelaide and Melbourne.

Clubs are entitled to have 25 players on their list. After the Draft, all Clubs will have 22 listed players and have until the end of the month to sign a further three free agents.

The Brisbane Lions have already signed Marquee players Tayla Harris and Sabrina Frederick-Traub, along with priority picks Emma Zielke and Kaitlyn Ashmore.

The Lions have also signed two Rookies. Two weeks ago they announced the signing of Kate Deegan as a Rookie and this week announced the Rookie signing of Brisbane Heat Captain Delissa Kimmince.

Pre-season for all eight clubs starts on November 21, with the national competition kicking off in February 2017.
