Versatile defender Darcy Gardiner has recommitted to the Brisbane Lions for another three years.

Taken at Pick 22 in the 2013 draft, Gardiner won a NAB Rising Star nomination in his first season and has played a total of 43 games.

The 21-year-old was due to come out of contract at season's end but is now tied to the Lions until the end of the 2019 season.

“We’re very pleased that Darcy has committed to the Club for another three years,” Brisbane Lions National Talent Manager Peter Schwab told lions.com.au.

“Darcy is integral to our side's defence, particularly after the departures of Dan Merrett and Justin Clarke, and he'll only continue to develop.

“Our strategy for the years ahead is to develop our talent and build a team that can win our next Premiership, and Darcy is very much a part of those plans.”
