Newly arrived midfield coach Dale Tapping has said that he is excited by the depth of talent in the Lions' list and is looking forward to guiding the midfield group in 2017.

Tapping coached Collingwood’s VFL side from 2013-2016, and before that led the Sandringham Dragons to the TAC Cup premiership in 2011 after leading the elite under 18 side for three seasons.

This season he was awarded the 2016 VFL Coach of the Year after taking Collingwood to the preliminary final.

Tapping, who started his role at the Club this week, has described his coaching philosophy as being about individual and team responsibility.

“It’s going to be around the clarity of the role and the roles they play, and about the group understanding what that midfield is going to bring to the overall team ethic,” he told LionsTV today.

“I’ve had a look at a little bit of vision at the moment and I’m going through it with the coaches from last year.

“There are some good players and some good talent here. First and foremost it’s about getting all the players fit and available and ready to play but then it’s about them engaging in what needs to be done and the responsibilities that come in playing in the midfield.”
